A dubious distinction for Tester

SOSForests.com is a blog that tracks state and federal wildfire fighting, or the lack thereof.  Each year they issue the "Nomex Ninny" award to a politician who dons a nomex fire suit and shamelessly poses for photos with firefighters on the front lines.  This year this distinction belongs to Jon Tester.  Click here for SOSForests' take on Tester's trip and for more pics.

Tester Breaks Earmarks Promise

Sen. Jon Tester made earmark reform a major tenet of his campaign against Conrad Burns, even going as far as to proclaim in an Oct. 9, 2006 debate that "Quite frankly, I don't support earmarks, period."  Today, the LA Times reports that Tester is guilty of breaking that promise.  The Times has learned that Tester "pressed agencies to grant their spending requests, according to correspondence obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by the Center for Investigative Reporting."

But you shouldn't be surprised that Tester plays fast and loose with the truth.  He also boldly proclaimed that he would have a seat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which also didn't come true.
